Sunday was an emotional roller coaster for David and me. We were invited to the hospital to hear the instructions from the nurse when it was time for Geena and Violet to be discharged. This was also the day that we would pick up Violet from the adoption agency and take her to the pre-adoptive home. We were, of course, excited to get to spend more time with Violet. However, the weight of the situation hit us like a ton of bricks. I think it fully hit David for the first time that afternoon. Let's just say that lots of tears were shed for many reasons.
One (of the many) blessings we experienced was being able to stay with Violet during her pre-adoptive care. Usually, the child goes to a pre-adoptive home and the adoptive parents are allowed to visit during the day. We happen to have friends that are certified to foster a child. They not only took in Violet, but they gave us the second floor of their home so that we could spend the whole time with her. It was awesome! It turned out to be especially helpful because our court date was delayed for two days which translated to three nights in the pre-adoptive home.
Sunday evening was the night that Grandma Baker, Grandma & Grandpa Fritz, Uncle Micah, Aunt Alex, and cousin Judah got to meet Violet. It was a crazy day and night and everything was very surreal. We were quite exhausted by the time we went to bed. I was unable to fall asleep until 3:00 a.m. because I was processing the events of the day and worrying about every noise and movement that Violet made. David and I both got up with her several times throughout the night. It was definitely a team effort and we changed her and fed her with smiles on our faces. We would randomly look at each other and exclaim, "We're parents!"
It was love at first sight for Grandma Baker.
Judah meeting his very first cousin!
Aunt Alex couldn't resist showering her new niece with kisses.
Grandpa Ron took Monday and Tuesday off from work that week in hopes that he could go to court with us. (Our court date ended up being Wednesday)
This is one of our gracious hosts, Sarah, and one of her three adorable daughters. They were extremely hospitable and full of good advice.
This is Sarah's husband, Mark. I know both of them from college and I'm glad we ended up in the same city and at the same church.
